Stampbord stamping surface is a kaolin clay coated wood surface that is ideal for stamping. The Stampbord surface
gives stampers a clean, pristine image every time. You can also use the scratch tool and scratch back into the Stampbord
surface to create incredible detail, textures and highlights, unlike any other stamping surface. The wood backing
is easy to drill into to create jewelry or to use in other applications such as altered books or scrapbooking. Stampbord
makes a great book cover for mini books. Stampbord is a multi media surface, so combining water-based paints or inks
with collage techniques is easy. You can also use embossing nks and powders. Stampbord is probably the nicest
surface I have ever stamped on! It is also acid-free.
What type of inks can I use?
The Stampbord accepts all traditional stamping colors including dye based and pigment inks. The absorbency
of the surface allows for color application without runs or bleeds. No matter how saturated the surface becomes, the
material will never buckle. With the stiff backing, the Stampbord is perfect for combining stamping and layered collage.
What if I make a mistake or don't like the colors I chose?
Simple, use an oil free steel wool to completely erase the surface and start all over again. No waste.
Do I need to seal it?
Sealing the Stampbord surface is important after you finish your work. They recommend a clear acrylic
varnish to add brilliance to your colors. Clear gloss polyurethane spray gives a very nice luster to finshed pieces.
How safe is it to use for my treasured art piece or jewelry?
Very! The base of the Stampbord is made of masonite (or commonly called hardboard). The process they
create this hardboard is called the wet/dry method. Many of the lignins and tannins that cause discoloration in paintings
over time are removed via this process. This hardboard is also manufactured from Aspen trees. The Aspens have
more uniform fibers and more neutral ph than that of other woods. This tempered hardboard will resits warping and the
edges won't fray. Your end product will be safe for many years to come.
Okay, so what did I think of it?
I really liked it. After I got started I didn't want to stop. I applied the ink color using
a Color Box sponge tip. I used Nick Bantock Dye Inks, Color Box Chalk Inks, Stampin Up Dye Inks; Adirondack Dye Inks,
Staz-On Black and India Ink. All worked very well and was quite pleased with how the colors blended.
The image truly was clear and crisp. I inked the stamp and turned the stamp upside down and applied the Stampbord
to the stamp.
I drilled some of the Stampbord for embellishments and I was able to drill it quite easy and quickly. There
really wasn't anything I disliked about it. The samples I have on the website were not sealed at the time I scanned
them. I wanted to see what it would be like to erase an image and color after I stamped it. I didn't have any
steel wool around so I just used some sandpaper. It was pretty easy to sand off. I didn't use a fine grit paper,
but even with the heavier sandpaper I used, I was still able to apply ink over it and stamp it again. Unless you really
look hard, you really can't see the sanding marks.
So-who else uses it?
If you have been a stamper for awhile, you might be familiar with the rubber stamp company Stampscapes.
